AMAZING NUMBERS IN WAKO

August 22, 2011

Italy is the host of the European Championships for Cadets and Juniors in Kickboxing 2-9 September.

The total numbers of participants are approx 1.300 from 37 countries and that is a record in the history of our European championships. President Ennio Falsoni announces his enthusiasm for these numbers and simply confirms that this shows the growth and development in our sport. Then we will have the first part of our Senior World Championships in Skopje (Macedonia) – 22nd-29th October, where we expect approximately 1.000 competitors in Low-Kick, Light Contact, Kick Light and K1 Rules. Then we finish with the last part of our Senior World Championships which will be held in Dublin (Ireland) 19th to 26th November, in the disciplines Semi Contact, Full Contact and Musical Forms, where we will have 500 competitors. We will therefore have approx 2.800 athletes in those three events. Amazing numbers!

The sport of kickboxing really develops all over the world and this is shown clearly this year, again.

The first Championships will take place in beautiful Lignano Sabbiadoro. This lagune is situated in north and not so far away from either Trieste or Venice. We chose both date and place in order for the youngers to experience this place in a summer period and in order to have a greater experience either in the front or after the championships.

To end, the Championships in Skopje, Macedonia will be the seat of our next General Assembly which will vote on some changing of our Statutes and do some structural changes in the board, meaning inclusion of presidents of WAKO Pan-America, WAKO Africa, WAKO Oceania (WAKO Europe and WAKO Asia’s presidents are already part of the Board). This is to ensure a closer monitoring of the development in our continent divisions.
