Sport for refugees and first-ever Global Refugee Forum

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) and UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, announced that a movement Sport for Refugees Coalition is consisting of over 70 partners which expressed its commitment to provide sporting opportunities to refugees and had a Forum taking place in the Swiss city, Geneva, being attended by 193 countries with International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach present.
The initiatives will include access to equipment and facilities, as well as the chance for refugees to compete at events.

Mr. Thomas Bach stressed that the IOC has been supporting refugees through sport for many years, for example, for the Olympic Games Rio 2016, IOC created the IOC Refugee Olympic Team.

“For refugees, sport is an opportunity to be included and protected – a chance to heal, develop and grow,” stressed Mr. Thomas Bach at the ForumWAKO is a member of the Sport for Refugees Coalition as we signed it through MoU with Peace and Sport organization. The WAKO “Live together ” program in Zatari refugee camp was highlighted during the Forum.

Today, December 18, on International Migrants Day, we’re calling for all migrants or refugees(any person who changes their country of usual residence no matter the reason) to have the right to public services, such as health, education, sports, and childcare.
