Dear WAKO Members,

Today the International World Games Association (IWGA) and Birmingham Organising Committee (BOC) have officially announced the decision to postpone the 11th edition of The World Games until 7th to 17th July 2022 .

In fact The Games had originally been planned to take place from 15th to 25th July 2021, but after the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) recent decision to move the Tokyo Olympic Games to July 2021 IWGA and BOC decided unanimously to postpone of one year The World Games in Birmingham, Alabama, to avoid any risk of reducing public and media interest.

Following this important decision the WAKO (IF) Board of Directors during its next meeting to be held on April 25th will review the qualification criteria for The World Games 2022 and immediately after an official communication will be published and sent out to all national Federation members.

These are extraordinary times we live in, and Kickboxing needs to flex with the changes and adapt to the ever increasing challenges facing us as a community and as a sport in the IOC Family of sports. Please stay safe, stay healthy and isolate until its safe to do otherwise.

Best regards,

Roy Baker WAKO President
