Libreville (capital of Gabon) hosted the 2nd WAKO African Championship’s edition which was hosted in the local sport-hall thanks to the kind support of the Government Sport Authorities of Gabon we have to thank for the great support they have given to Mr. Eric Ella, president of the Gabonaise Kickboxing Federation which promoted the event.
It was not easy to organise such a big event for a country like Gabon (just one and a half million people) which attracted fighters from 10 countries ( together with Gabon, we had Morocco, Cameroun, Mali, Guinea Equatorial, Madagascar, Isle Maurice, Nigeria, Angola, RDC). Originally they were 17, but due to the troubles in the Arab countries, many of them were obliged to give up at the last moment.
It was though a great success thanks also of the work that president of the WAKO Africa Kickboxing Confederation , Mr. Emmanuel Essissima , had made in promoting the African Championship in the black continent.
The Championship, which were sponsored by ADIDAS, showed a very good technical level in general, better than that displayed in 2010 in Cameroun during the first edition. That means the African countries are improving quickly and we are looking forward to seing their best fighters in our next World Championships either in Macedonia or in Ireland later on this year.
During the meeting of the Board of the African Confederation, Madagascar was granted the promotion fot the third edition of the African Championship which will take place in the capital in early April of 2012.
