Cancellation of the 2022 World Championship in Dublin (Ireland)

May 6, 2022

Dear Presidents and General Secretaries,

As we know the war in Ukraine has had a dramatic effect on Europe and the surrounding nations, with a significant flow of Immigration in to all the European countries and across the world.

The 2022 Cadet and Junior World Championships were to be held in Citywest Hotel, Dublin, from 16th to 25th September.

As a direct consequence of the war and to facilitate the influx of refugees in to Ireland, the Irish Government has now taken over the Citywest Hotel and all its functions for a two year period to accommodate the influx of refugees from Ukraine in to Ireland.

Therefore the World Cadet and Junior Championships will no longer be held in Dublin, Ireland.

The WAKO Executive Board has had to take a quick decision, at a convened executive board meeting, with very little notice, due to the very short period left to the championships and the multiple requests for confirmation to enable flight bookings for travel of the teams, the board has agreed to the hosting of the World Championships in Jesolo Lido (VE), Italy, from 30th September to 9th October (one week later). A very experienced team, a great location, with appropriate infrastructure and connectivity.

This is very unfortunate, but unavoidable.
In times of force majeure we have to act quickly and decisively in the best interests of our athletes and members.
Further details will be issued in the coming weeks, with a full invitation being sent before end of May, but the dates as indicated above are confirmed.

Best regards,

WAKO Administration
