Public Announcement by WAKO President

October 11, 2023

Dear WAKO members,

I hope this message finds you well and in good spirits.
I wanted to take a moment to share some news regarding the initial program of sports at LA28.
Unfortunately, kickboxing has not been selected for the upcoming Games.
While we may feel a sense of disappointment, it’s important for us to stay positive and focus on the incredible journey we have been on.
We should all be immensely proud that kickboxing, as a relatively young sport, was considered and shortlisted for the Summer Olympic Games.
This is a true testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved in promoting and developing kickboxing.
Although we didn’t secure a spot in LA28, let’s remember that being shortlisted alongside all the other Olympic sports is an extraordinary achievement in itself.
It demonstrates the potential and recognition kickboxing has garnered within the international sporting community.

Let me express my heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you, for your unwavering support in the growth and development of kickboxing.
Your dedication and enthusiasm have been instrumental in bringing us this far, so quickly and for that, we are truly thankful.
Let’s view this setback as an opportunity to refocus our efforts and work even harder to ensure that kickboxing takes its rightful place on the Olympic stage in the future.
Together, we have the power to make great strides and continue to showcase the excellence of our sport.
Thank you once again for your incredible support.
Let’s stay positive, keep pushing forward, and embrace the bright future that lies ahead for kickboxing.
